I'm having a really hard time figuring out if it's possible for my setup to work or not.
Oculus has made the choice to stop developing Mac versions of the runtime for their headset, which has limited our ability to support VR on Mac computers.Apple has also been slow to adopt GPUs fast enough to support VR in their computers, which means that they often don't have the processing power required for VR. So where do we Mac users go from here? Here are your options: 1) Buy a PC and be prepared to shell out at least $1k for the computer. 2) Wait until Oculus decides to build a runtime for Mac (could take longer than a year). 3) Find a friend willing to share a PC/Rift (try a Meetup!). In summary, if you’d like to use the Oculus Rift on your Mac, you can’t.
- Mac laptop OSX 10.8.5
- Oculus Development Kit (DK1)
- Oculus Runtime 0.4.4 (oculus_runtime_rev_1_sdk_0.4.4_osx.dmg)
- Unity 5.1.1f1 Personal (free)
- OculusUtilities_0_1_0_beta (Unity package)
With runtime 0.4.4 I am able to access the Oculus Configuration Utility app, and can run the demo scene just fine, so I know the headset works with the operating system (I tried runtime 0.5.0.1, and I was not able to run the config utility).
But when I try and run the demo scenes in the Unity package, I get these errors:
DllNotFoundException: OVRGampad
Is it possible to develop with Unity 5 free for Oculus DK1 on Mac?

Insert the sync cable and usb cable to your positional tracker and connect the ends to the power and USB connectors. You can then simple attach the positional tracker to your laptop/screen.Step 3: Power up the headset!
All good to go! You can also check out the following YouTube video as a quick visual guide for setting up the hardware: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpVpZUQGcSYSoftware Downloads:

Go to settings preferences > Hold CMD+Option keys and click on display to open the rotation drop down menu. Now open up the Oculus World Demo found in the Oculus SDK > Samples > Oculus World Demo and you are ready to go! You can also find some great games and demos on https://share.oculus.com/!
